Facebook Retargeting Tutorial

Facebook retargeting is now very popular because of its effectiveness.

I wrote a couple of days ago about what is retargeting and if you don't know what it is, I'd recommend you go and read the post.

Why Facebook retargeting is so effective?

Well because first of all, everybody is on Facebook.

The second thing is that once someone visits a page and there is a Facebook retargeting pixel on that page, it does not matter if he came from a computer or from a mobile, that user will be retargeted either way.

This does not happen with Google remarketing. Google just drops a cookie for retargeting on the browser so it is less effective.

The third thing is that Facebook newsfeed ads are very effective. I've found that ads on the sidebar on Facebook are not as effective, but they are cheaper.

Here are some of my results from a retargeting campaign.

I made $12 per sale, so this is a ROI of 146%.

Not bad 🙂

So how does Facebook retargeting work?

You just add a pixel to your website or landing page and when a visitor comes, a Custom Audience on Facebook gets populated. That person has been added to the audience.

You need at least 20 people in your audience to be able to create a retargeting ad.

For better results, I'd recommend at least 100 people in your custom audience.

If you don't find your website from the dropdown, just select people who visit specific web pages as shown here

The important part when creating the ad is selecting the Custom audience, you then follow with the ad creation as you'd usually do.
