How To Setup Facebook Conversion Tracking
When you are using Facebook Ads to send traffic to your landing pages it is very important to track everything.
Facebook conversion tracking allows you to control how much you spend per action.
An action might be a sale, a lead or any given action you want your target audience to do.
Normally you should have a thank you page to place the conversion pixel.
For example, when you send traffic to a squeeze page (a page to collect emails) and once visitors input the email you send them to a thank you page.
In the thank you page is where you need to place the conversion pixel.
The same thing happens with a sale.
You send traffic to a sales page and when the customer buys, he reaches a confirmation or thank you page.
This is where you place the Facebook conversion pixel :).
Some online shops are prepared and already have a section where you can place your conversion pixel, but it's not always the case.
A few reasons why you'd want to track your Facebook conversions
- To keep track of how much you are spending per action
- To improve on your results
- To know which ad is working better
- To be able to scale
I'll show you how to do it with a WordPress website and you should be able to do the same with any other page.
Step 1. Get the Facebook conversion pixel
First of all, what you need to do is to create a Facebook conversion pixel and copy the code.
I detail here the steps you need to follow.
How to get the Facebook Conversion Pixel
- Go to Facebook Ads Manager
- Click on Tools > Conversion Tracking
- Click on Create Pixel
- Select the type of pixel you want
- I normally go with Leads or Checkouts
- Give the conversion pixel a name
- Click on create pixel
- Then view the pixel code and copy it
Step 2. Place the Facebook conversion pixel in your thank you page
Once you have the conversion pixel, you should place it in your thank you page or your confirmation page.
How to place the Facebook Conversion Pixel
- Copy the code from the step above
- Open your thank you page
- Paste the code in the <head> code </head> section of your page
- Save and close your page
In the video below I show you how to do it.
Step 3. Verify your configuration
There is a new Google Chrome plugin that allows you to verify any Facebook pixel on a website.
Get the Chrome extension FB Pixel Helper and install it.
Head over with your browser to your thank you page and if it all worked well, you should see something like that
If it is not there, then you must have done something wrong.
Review the steps above first and if it still does not work, post a comment below or check the additional resources.
If you see a 1 like in the image above, then you are good to go, well done :).
